Some of the newer laptops I’ve recently restored are now supporting a fantastic cause. I work with a couple based in Lymington who travel to Sri Lanka to help rebuild schools and support local communities. These refurbished devices will be gifted directly to students, giving them access to tools that can make a real difference in their education.

Of course, before any device is reused or redistributed, data security comes first. I have recently donated a collection of recycled devices to Jamie's Computers in Southampton — a brilliant local charity that refurbishes IT equipment and reinvests all proceeds back into the community. Their work supports over 2,500 people each year, particularly those facing challenges such as homelessness and substance or alcohol dependency.

Recently, I was commissioned by a local firm to securely dispose of a number of surplus Windows PCs and Apple Macs.
First Things First: Goodbye Hard Drives 👋
Before anything else happened, all the storage drives were removed from the computers. Those drives are now on their way to Restore Data Shred in Southampton, where they’ll be thoroughly shredded. Once that’s done, there’s no chance of sensitive data ever coming back to haunt anyone. Sleep-easy levels of secure.
The Computers Get a Second Chance
With the drives safely dealt with, the computers themselves were still in great shape — far too good to be thrown away. So they’ve been set aside to be recycled through Jamies Computers, a brilliant local charity that refurbishes and repurposes IT equipment for good causes.
That means these Windows PCs and Macs can either be brought back to life for someone who needs them, or recycled properly and responsibly.
